Welcome back - a few students had great difficulty adjusting to being back at school after the long weekend!!! Hopefully their behaviour will improve tomorrow.
We read Ch 4 of the novel Word to Ceasar- of course some students have already completed it and seem to have enjoyed it enough. Good reading. Every three chapters we will be looking at the information that we have learned from the story about life in ancient Rome as well as following the main plot and characters.
Official spelling tests have wrapped up but we are continuing with the dictionary and contextual evidence word assignments called vocab-u-lous. Quite a few students are powering through them and are at the letter 'N'.
Poems are slowly coming in and look as well as sound good.
Today we reviewed Pythagorus theorum and solved a couple of 'real life' type of problems for which the theorum could be applied.
In socials we considered the influences of the philosophers and great thinkers of ancient Greece and read specifically about Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. It is amazing to look at the influence their ideas have had on modern day thinking and organizations. The Greek Brochures were due today- thank -you to the students who handed them in on time. I received work from half of the class -14 of the 28 in attendance today!!! (that means just four more brochures over last week which is rather disappointing considering an extension was provided)
In science we will be continuing with a close look at the formation of rocks and caves formations in particular for our upcoming fieldtrip.
It is hard to believe but one week tomorrow we will be on our way to Horne Lake Camp. I have been in touch with the camp organizers and they have requested that I go over the packing items and things to leave at home. I have prepared a letter with the travel itineray and camp behaviour form which will go home tomorrow. I really need to take the time to discuss things with the class in a better atmosphere than we had this afternoon. I plan to do this tomorrow.
There are six students who have ordered a 2009 hoodie but still have to pay for it and six students still to bring in payment for camp. A letter went home tonight asking whether you would like to see and/or purchase the photographs taken a couple of weeks ago called the 'spring portrait'- there are six sheets for $39 or one sheet for $14. If you are interested please return the slip and the package will be sent tomorrow. We did not want to just send them home in case you were not interested in buying another package and to limit loss of the packages.
There is no new homework- half of the class has to make the effort to complete the already assigned and now overdue work!!!
With approx. six weeks left, time is running out.
This weekend I created the Template for the term 3 report card and will be sharing it with students tomorrow.
Start planning for camp packing and let me know if you need another packing list- they don't all seem to have made it home!!
More Wednesday. Have a good evening.
