Wednesday last day of April already!

Beautiful spring day today. It was getting really warm in the classroom with 28 bodies in a small space so we made a decision to work through our booked PE time and headed outside for Phys Ed later in the afternoon for about 10 minutes longer than we would have had in the gym.

No new reminders

Our day

Writing sample for a school wide project looking at the topic of pets
The students were asked to pick one of these topics:
Pets you have now
Or
Pets you had and remember
Or
Pets you would like to have one day

Had to negotiate with a couple (two in every class apparently) about writing their paragraph about why they would never plan on owning a pet!!

Next we completed the first couple of activities using Greek and Latin roots (etymology) used in the English Language and a unit from the resource called Mastering Vocabulary
The students seemed to enjoy getting the chance to used the prefix and suffix from Latin to make up their own new words. The intent is to familiarize students with roots and prefix/suffix meaning in order that they can accurately determine the meaning of new vocabulary.

Math review puzzle after a review of instruction on the procedures for adding and subtracting mixed number fractions with different denominators
Then we used the computer lab to complete the Ch 7 study quiz on-line using the textbook website for MathLinks 7

Read to self - took a bit to get settled but it was fine once they were (actually some are so intent on their books that I have a difficult time dragging them away especially because it is so quiet and peaceful)
This was the last day of April - reading records were collected

Can't believe it is May tomorrow!!

French activity for the irregular verb etre : to be
Looking at declension of the verb - using the verb parts in one activity and focusing in the pronouns in the other. We translated the sentences together using the clues from the words and the help from the verb part.
The students did a great job on this as we had decided earlier that we would take our P.Ed.block outside so they were motivated to 'git'er done' :)

Cleared off desks and prepared bags for home ready for pick up on our return to class
Outside we set up a few different stations with the help of Mrs. Wolfe and Cynthia
One group played baseball with only two gloves
Another group played soccer
A third group played frisbee
Buy all accounts and the happy faces I would have to say that it was a success.

Hope everyone has a decent evening.
Mrs. J

P.S. Shhhh quietly want to let you know that the new seating plan is still working quite well (noting it is not perfect but seems to be better than the last experiment)
