Wednesday, September 19th

I am enjoying (too much) some mini Allsorts as I post tonight- sometimes I just gotta have a bit of sweet liquorice.

Reminders
tonight the immunization packages were sent home for the grade six students (except the following were left in class: Eric, Gabriel, Kobe and Taylor- you were too fast for me to catch up with you)
I'll catch up tomorrow first thing :)

Band class tomorrow please remember instruments and music if you have them at home

verification forms needed from Braedan, Austin, Kayliegh, Erik and Eddie

communication forms needed from Autumn, Kobe, Angelo, Kayliegh, Bobby, Erik and 5 grade sevens in Mr. Parker's class whom I have for the math program

emergency kits are being updated and collected for the new school year and there are approx 8 students to go for a full class set

Thank-you everyone. There are lots of 'collections' at the beginning of the school year. Thanks for your patience.

There is no homework or practice set tonight :)

Our Day

language Arts
I analyzed the students written paragraphs and decided to look at the concept of writing a complex sentence that is not a run-on or run-together string of words.
We used an activity form the Communication book to look at a run-together paragraph that the students had to add punctuation and capitals to separtae the ideas being presented.
I was impressed with the effort made and surprised that everyone managed to complete the activity lickety split.

mapping
continents of the world activity using the atlas to assist.
I was surprise last week that some had countries and continents confused!

Math 7 revisit divisibility tests and complete the activity. Today the concept of the algorithm for repeated subtraction was presented.
At the computers we practiced divison using the IXL website.

RTS time (read to self) and record progress. The progress sheets are handed in at the end of the month and I draw a boy and a girl's name for a Scholastic book from the flyer.

Physical Education
Warm up
line soccer (assessing skills of group with no pressure- just seeing how they participate and get an idea of the skill level for fair groupings in the future)
line basketball
zombie tag
Good interaction and participation so far just have to encourage better sportsmanship (hearing too many competitive comments that are not helpful)

Art and a chapter of the read aloud Word Nerd (ch 6)
students are sketching manga type cartoon renditions of the characters and/or scenes they visualize from the novel. We have some talented sketch artists and a very accomplished Manga (Japanese cartooning) artist in our midst.

pack up for the day. I am not leaving enough time at the day's end for planners. I am working on a better time of day to encourage everyone to use it well! I am considering after RTS time in the afternoon. Bear with me.

looks like a lovely evening. Enjoy.
Mrs. J.
