Difficult to believe it is May tomorrow!!
There is nothing nicer than getting a great big bear hug from a former student who remembers me from his 'not-so happy' high school days. Thanks, Trevor, you made my day! It reminds me again that it is not what I teach that matters but how I interact and how I treat people. So, I feel kind of sheepish about this afternoon as the same suspects (see yesterday's post) were creating the same issues in the afternoon and I was getting cranky!!
My solution?- another desk change- will it work? Probably for a couple of days until they get comfortable again- it is May already!
Shout out of thanks to Hannah who stayed after school to help me get the groups we did decide on in order. She shared my dismay about the students who don't make decisive decisions about who they want to sit and learn with but then don't like any suggestions offered!!! Occupational hazard.
Homework
Any magazines for cutting up? Looking to augment my supply for the mosaic project
novel?? read??

Our day...
daily French
Phys Ed
Being such a beautiful morning (although it is still a bit cool in the wind) I was able to offer some outside time which is great for knocking the cobwebs from our brains!
Today's decsions:
floor hockey in the gym (10 students) the boys were happy to be able to use the whole gym
baseball practice in our Baseball diamond for approx. 8-10 mainly the girls wanted to get back into pitching and batting shape for the upcoming Ball season
and an informal soccer scrimmage (4-6) in the hockey court outside
You know what I really enjoy about his time of the year in Phys Ed. is that the students have been playing together for years and once my rules are established and folllowed thorugh for the majority of the year, we can all lighten up and I know that they know what to do and how to behave and it is very sweet to be able to offer three different activites and watch them all get along without my micromanagement.
Great session everyone was active and involved in something physical- what's not to love?
Language: Adjectives
Introduction to the use of adjectives, recognizing and identifying what they modify in a sentence. Also an activtiy requiring a review of the degrees of adjectives when making comparisons.
This activity took longer than I thought!!
Math 7 Area and Perimeter follow up
Shout out to Casper who was 'on the ball' when he picked up my BIG error on an area calculation with the part of the diagram that needed subtracted from the whole!! I was wrong and he was right!!
We worked on calculating the values for perimeter and area using formula. Better class today- thankfully.
Lunch time Grade 6/7 shot put and long jump practice
Silent reading/literacy
French
Vivent les Sports- bandes designees
Seating plan and new groups agreement (negotiation)
returned the FSA to the grade 7's
Art
mosaics: choosing designs, sketching, magazines to cut into 'tiles' and as you can imagine a bit of a mess at the day's end!!
Dismissal- have a nice evening.
Mrs. J.
