Back to school and I can't say that I am feeling 100% well yet; but, we managed fine today and I even (bonus) received a couple of socials projects beautifully presented and complete. It was a very nice way to 'make my day' right off the top. Thanks.
Homework
the ONLY thing I have asked the students to work on at home is the competing and polishing of the socials project due this week Jan 31st
That's it
On Thursday a handful of students, they know who they are, need to try again at the spelling list for Unit 4 and FYI I did not hand out a new list this week (provincial assessments going on mid week)
Reminders
New seating plan in effect tomorrow and it is MY turn to decide on who sits where- can't wait to hear the reaction (there is always a couple of students who sulk for 10 minutes or so and then they forget!)
Oops just realized I forgot to give out the camp forms - tomorrow evening look for camp forms and waivers
FSA assessments begin for grade seven tomorrow
Our day...
daily French (personally forgot and had to look up the futur proche tense- if you don't use it ...
Spelling results shared- much better results where students studied (Hhmmm... now there is a new concept).
However, some students made it clear they felt that they did not have time to 'study' (remember I made some redo and redo and then gave them the new list 'later' than the others so they do have a legitimate complaint; SO, redo of Unit 4 Thursday for those that will study and do better.
Handed out the incomplete unit of science work which only one or two students completed at the end of last week and once they were completed and had it handed in to me chose a reading card to work on the reading program.
SRA reading program
Read aloud two chapters of our class novel, Payback
The students are getting keener to know what is going to happen to conclude it as the author is winding us up to something not so pleasant with lots of inferential suspense.
Math 7
Completed the Algebra worksheet together
worked through a tricky problem sample from past FSA assessments which used algebra
Wanna try?
There are 56 students and the choir master wants them standing on 4 steps ensuring that there are four more students on each successive height. How many students are on each step?
I'll post the answer tomorrow (I gave the grade sevens some different numbers so if you want them to impress you, ask them to use these numbers and use the inverse operation method of solving
step
1 read to understand what's required
2 form an equation
3 solve the equation (two steps)
4 revisit and state your answer
Computer session (socials focus but for students finished on-line math and language practice before 10 minutes free time)
Silent reading - allowing a focus on social studies projects - this also gave me a chance to check out the individual progress on the projects
Title pages for projects started Friday
desk change plans shared as promised (it is definitely time...when you hear..."He's looking at me funny" and Mrs J, So-and-So (insert classmates name, usually a neighbour) is, pick one
a) jabbing me with his pencil
b) copying my notes
c) eating a snack in his desk and putting his wrapper in my desk
