Tuesday January 22nd
I started the day unable to find my keys and one of the primary students told me that her mom always puts things back in the place they belong. I promised to try!
So, yesterday, we discussed the endocrine system and hormones and today, some students gave me a dose of their hormonal imbalance - it was one hectic and crazy day. It is not even a full moon- that's next week !!!
Homework
Spelling Unit 3 Redo of the redo (only two students are expected to study tonight as the other 6 were successful with their results on the redo :))
Math 7 last example on the algenbra booklet- to write and solve the equation (started the work on it in class)

Our crazy day...
Physical Education: good session but very busy, busy, busy...
1. warm up beep run
2. basket practice shot making drill complete with dribbling and throwing practice
3. whole court games 2 minutes rotation- two complete teams with two students per game staying on also on a rotational basis.
Looking a lot better than the basketball rugby sessions that we started with a month ago! Yay
Spelling redo for Unit 3 while the others worked on the crossword puzzle for Unit 4
the good news is that with a bit of accountability the 7 students who were asked to go home an study and try again did very well and are now moving on. Only two students who were honest about not stdying need to do a redo pof the redo tomorrow and every day uintil they get a successful result!! I am NOT looking for 100% just a reasonable result!
I am trying to demonstrate how crucial it is to actually make an effort to study! It is hard work setting the work and holding students accountable for their results.
Math 7
Algebra- writing equations and solving them using the inverse operation method to balance the equation. We worked through the rest of the booklet today despite the drama that spilled over from silly behaviour between a couple of students. Thank-you to the rest of the students who remained relatively calm while I dealt with the issue.
We even managed to spend a half hour at the computer lab doing a sample Reading Comprehension as a warm up fpor the FSA next week. Yes, I care that they are familiar with the unfamiliar format (we do not teach that way on a daily basis) which is set up more like a high school exam. Half an hour wasn't enough time but next week we have the lab booked for FSA assessments.
They will have 6 reading selections and 40 multiple choice questions to complete in an hour.
NOT so silent Silent Reading
VERY challenging today- seems that students just could not stop interfering with each other's 'quiet time' for many different reasons, none of which were acceptable!
I was finding it frustrating because it was like playing the game of catch me if you can! Arrrgghh!
I believe that quiet time is as important as sleep for the brain! We do not live in a world that promotes quiet, solitary time and we need it.
Together we went over the letter for the camp and read and discussed the questions that they had regarding the activities and the cost. One student wanted to know what the food was going to be...we haven't chosen our menu yet but it is (always has been) really tasty food and they cater for various dietary restrictions. Those are the details yet to come!
Please ask your child to show you the letter especially if you are reading this and haven't yet!
French
Clothing unit / design project
Art meets French- there are three different projects on the go all various ways of meeting the outcome of being able to recognize and label clothing in French
This session did get rather noisy and social so I shut it down by reading a couple of chapters of our read aloud novel.
I intended to show a Karma tube clip about 'quiet time' but it was too close to the end of the school day- I intend to show it again tomorrow. If I can remember how I will provide a link for it on this blog but not today (ZURG! remember him? He was the star wars type character from Toy Story) Oh, Oh it has happened I am going a little stir crazy myself- I need to go home. Peace out!
Mrs J.
