I have only 9 completed French activites (L'armoire) also overdue

a hot lunch form went home today to be returned May 9th
Camp permission form and medical info is due May 10th

General Day
Daily French (hasn't been so 'daily' of late but the students are translating and understanding with greater ease than ever :) c'est tres bien

Spelling practice- it makes me crazy how many students need a personal invitation to get their spelling lists out and study the list words in class!! Not all are studying at home!! My advice is to use the opportunities you are afforded!

Vocabulary/grammar activity: word choice (choosing the correct word use)
words that sound the same but are spelled differently (homonyms) have different functions in the grammatical sense of a sentence: practice, practise or advise, advice etc.
A short paragrph using 5 of the 20 words to form a cohesive set of sentences was an extend activity

I also asked the students to think about what kind of modern day 'impossible' tasks could be asked of a 'superhero" like Hercules and they came up with quite a few challenging tasks indeed
  • bring about world peace
  • solve hunger and greed in the world
  • cure cancer
  • find a livable habitat on another planet
  • find a way to equalize wealth and stop poverty
  • reverse global warming
  • provide equal educaion for everyone
  • teach dogs to talk
  • find the loch ness monster and return 'her' alive
  • fix the lean on the leaning tower of Pisa
  • make school fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (thanks, Manpreet. I thought it was already!)lol

  • my task for a modern day Hercules has to do with the division that religion has brought historically and around the world currently. I want a superhero(ine) to create a way for everyone to be able to be spiritual and ethically driven without the need to pose behind a specific set of religious rules and self-importance.
Band class

Math 7 corrected the text book assignments from Ch12  p433 and yesterday's analysis of the graphs (bar chart and pie chart) I managed to remember to distribute the reference sheet that I promised for students who keep forgetting what the vocabulary of central measures of tendency actually mean (no not that mean!)
I was pleasantly surprised by the number of students who decided that they wanted one as only one or two had requested the guide. I guess I could have had them make a reference guide of the defintions for themselves but to be honest either we all do it together or I do it if it is to reach the majority of students.
11:30-noon we had a computer session and the students worked on displaying their survey question data using the Chart Wizard function of Microsoft Excel. They are becoming quite proficient.

Silent reading (better) Thanks to Nic and Manpreet who worked with Aaron today :)
Thanks to the volunteers working with Ms. Sorban and the primary class.

Socials: Thanks to Kelli, we dialled up a Histroy channel documentary series on the Greek gods and heros called Clash of the Gods. Pretty fascinating programs and waaaay better than I could present (although if I say so myself I did enjoy my tongue in cheek representation of the story in class yesterday). The students seemed to enjoy the multi media presentation of the story of the 12 labours of Hercules. It is very engaging.

Phys. Ed. Class game Benchball
Some can be a little too agressive!! However, genrally I do think everyone seemed to be enjoying the chance to run around.

Without trying to influence the students one way or the other, we had a lively discussion about this year's format and preferences for sports day- very interesting ideas. Autumn came to me a few weeks ago and I had suggested she talk to her peers and let me know when they were ready for a discussion. I have some data to share with my colleagues.

...continue the Socials documentary about Hercules' 12 labours (it is about 40 minutes we have watched about half of it and are at his 6th task. What's really quite compelling is how the presenters relate the tasks metaphorically to reality and present day.

review homework

Have a good evening
