As Mondays go , it was okay and best of all the class part was productive and everyone survived another Monday!
Happy Birthday to Keanan and many thanks to Keanan's mom for making those yummy cupcakes that Keanan shared at lunch (MMMmmm).
Also thank-you to my students for being so complimentary about my shorter hair cut- even adults worry that people won't like the small (but psychologically significant) changes we make to our appearance (especially hair cuts). We pretend it doesn't matter but it does so thank-you all :)
I did my best to configure another seating plan as mentioned at the end of the week. We'll see how it goes over. There are always a couple who are difficult to please and therefore place.
Homework
Except for the Unit 6 speling list for test on Thursday
nothing new but there are still a number of assignments to be completed and hopefully the studnets who I have been giving the reminders to will know who they are and get their respective assignments completed and handed in (biography posters, French wardrobes, science activites for instance!)
Reminders
Report cards went home today in envelopes for your perusal please rememeber to ask your son/daughter for the report. It would be good to have a return of the first page signed and I will record it and return it if you would like to keep it.
grad hoodies have arrived and will be distributed tomorrow for students who have pre-paid
tomorrow morning 11-12noon Band concert with Don Ross secondary's grade 8 advanced band class (a chance for our students to join them and showcase their improvement)
General Day
Spelling activity in preparation for the Unit 6 test- words this week are more tricky than difficult as many are homonyms and need a context to be spelled correctly
Grade sevens did the 'satisfaction' survey for the Ministry of Education
QAR question levels in prep for the creation of questions for the Greek Mythology activity (reference sheet)
Band
Math7
mini-review using the on-line resources to show students where and what they can do on their own (IXL website has all learning outcomes and practice activities for BC grade 7 and Mathlinks 7 has a chapter 5 and a chapter 12 quiz that we looked at today.
Reminder quiz for the probability and data management unit Thursday this week
Next, we completed worksheet activites of reading and creating both double line and double bar graphs for data and completed a review of which type of graph is more effective for displaying a variety of data collections.
Finally we reviewed (need more time) the details of the expectations for the Spend a Million project which seems to have a few students already planning and looking for suitable accommodations and transportation options.
Silent Reading
I distributed the report cards for the students to look over them and ask any questions they needed to about anything that they wanted to clarify. I took a few minutes to settle their 'nerves' about this report as another is due not more than 5-6 weeks from now! The final grade for the year (not the term mark) is the only one that appears on a students' Permanent Record card. I want to encourage students to work as well as they are able until the end of the year because it absolutely can make a difference to the end of the year record.
Socials/Language Arts
Using the QAR strategy to brainstorm some questions for the reading and comprehension activity tomorrow morning. Groups will get together and pool their questions to chose the best 5 (and create an answer key) for the other groups to answer. It should be interesting!
They will be reading four different stories and answering each others questions as a group.
Computer Session:
A number of activities are scheduled for this session
i. if you have an activity that needs to be completed, do so and print it (hand it in )
ii Greek mythology (You Tube) the students wanted to see their favourite heroes, gods
iii math- if ready to practice for the upcoming test go to on-line resources OR research for your Spend a Million project
iv those who missed Friday have three on-line science quizzes to complete at BC Science 7
Only after these goals are met may the students have some 'free time'!
back to class - pick up, pack up review work, remind them to bring instruments and music, make sure everyone has report cards and Dismiss
Another day is done!
Have a pleasant evening.
Mrs. J.
