General Day
Daily French
Literature Time for activities and posters for Novels (started Term 2). A couple of students managed to complete them today- they are due this time next week.
We have a primary student who visits us twice a week. He was so funny today- he came up the stairs to the second floor and he saw our DARE officer (RCMP) Constable Zonderland (I think) and he stopped in his tracks, eyes wide and he looked at me and said "Has it been such a bad day that you needed to get the police officer in?" We all laughed but he was serious. For my readers who may be wondering what DARE is, it is a Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.
This section was supposed to be included in the afternoon but I don't know how to move it there.

Math
Yesterday the student hit the magic number of BUSTED points and had a very quick meeting among themselves to inform me that they would like to cash in those points all at once and start a movie today (The Blind Side) and complete the viewing of it tomorrow (we managed 40 minutes today) spending 10 wrapping up the Area of a circle assignment.
There is actually a great deal of math in a football game and if you also include the plays, there is an amazing connection of lines and angles (geometry) that's my defense and its better than my offence!!
I do not often show movies in my classes so it is a 'treat'. I also do not rely on movies to merely entertain- this one has a great story (a true story too) about beating the odds on growing up fatherless and in poverty. It has a connection to the importance of education and working hard to reach a goal. It is the story of how an opportunity can open all sorts of doors if you are willing to accept the help and meet the challenges. Michael Oher became an NFL first round draft pick for the Baltimore Ravens in 2009. It is an inspiring and feel-good movie. If you haven't seen it yet I'd suggest it as a decent family choice.
Silent reading (congratulations to Harjot who won today's March reading record draw a $10 pick from the Teen Reading Club scholastic flyer)
French les parties du corps et les vetements
I was most encouraged today when students really worked together on this activity to the point I was actually able to address the class en francais.
Phys. Ed.
Another fun and fitness minded session. Music, floor hockey and badminton. I am always encouraged when students thank me after a class and tell me how they enjoyed it. I had nothing to do with it besides providing the opportunity. They were the ones who were responsible for having such a great time. The sweat pouring off some was proof of a physical workout too. Thank-you for enjoying yourselves so much.
We extended our afternoon gym time today owing to the class scheduled next took advantage of the nice weather and went outside.
back in class we finished the French booklet, reviewed homework and prepared for dismissal.
Great day and the sun was shining too.
See everyone Thursday,
Mrs. J.
