Quick post tonight as I need to get going home to get dinner on and skeedadle to the curling club. My ladies curling team has made it to the playoffs (top 4).
Homework
nothing new
spelling list 11 for Thursday
read those novels past chapter 10 ( approx. two thirds of my students have completed their novel choices)
Reminder
assembly 10 am tomorrow for our anti-bullying day
General day
daily French
spelling practice
writing skills: complete the Dolphin paragraphs (started yesterday)
SRA reading program- independent reading activities
Deserts of the world (not desserts of the world - now that would be interesting don't you think?)
I might be showing my ignorance but I had no idea that the Antarctic was considered a Polar Desert! I am learning neat things every year (unit) along with my students. (Reason # 324 why I love my job)
Math 7
review quiz on pre-algebra patterns and creating expressions
linear equations - using graphing of linear equations to answer/solve questions. This is where my math and science collide (mascience!) as linear graphing is often used as a quantitative visual in experiments i.e. the amount of fluid that evaporated from the beaker can be represented using a linear equation.
Silent reading
mostly silent and mostly reading
Personal Planning
we completed the last six minutes of Jamie Oliver's TED talk about teaching children about food. We discussed the importance of not being driven to consume endless frutcose/glucose laden processed foods and the issues that are driving young people to develop eating disorders and obesity.
I shared the story of my friend from university who died of a heart attack at 26 caused by anorexia and the stress on her heart. She was a fabulous math teacher. She died a young size zero!
Phys Ed. With that last lesson in mind we put on some music in the gym and we played class games that everyone seemed to really enjoy. That made my heart a little lighter. Thank you to my students for enjoying such simple games as four corners and link tag. I had fun watching you have fun. (# 325 why I love my job)
Creative Project time back in class- our candy bars and video games are coming along- sometimes when we don't get it done quickly we lose momentum but so far so good. I just need to keep on keeping on and they will soon be ready to present.
Dismissal
Have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
