Whacky Hair Day

Jan 20th

It is hard to be taken seriously when you have a grey Nutty Professor wig and fake glasses on (flasses)!!
The students did better than I thought at trying to listen to me.

Today was a little crazy- but it was a day that seemed to disappear fast. TGIF

Homework
Nothing new BUT
a couple of students have the Toronto paragraph to complete at home
a couple of Math 7 students did not hand in their practice booklet- please bring it on Monday completed
8 have a socials project that is overdue
Math 6 no homework

Reminders
a letter went home with the grade sevens today- ask for it :)
Monday afternoon we have a Native workshop scheduled from 2-3pm
Tuesday Math6 and Math7 classes are cancelled as Mr.Parker's class has a Native workshop scheduled for that time. Classes will resume Wednesday.

General Day
Science
Introduction to the Science Chemistry unit- as I had 4 absent, I had to postpone the safety lab. but we were able to do a show and tell about what is entailed in the 'experiments' that we do during the unit and generally how important it is to have lab partners and a group who have a role each to play from first aid to glassware handling. I enjoy this unit because even when the students' experiments flop they learn the importance of following directions, precise measurement, specific timing and ,as it is hands on, they seem to enjoy the outcome whatever it might be.
They seem interested and keen to get started. Wish me luck- I have a cartoon of a science lab teacher looking at his charred students around the Bunsen Burner saying "That wasn't supposed to happen". I will show it to the students before the first experiment as a deterrent. Don't worry that was meant to be funny (we don't have a fully equipped science lab or any Bunsen burners)

Reading - we are missing it this afternoon (performance) and we missed it yesterday (spelling bee). My students demanded silent reading time be incorporated into the morning and They kept a close eye on the time (as I sometimes go over)!!

Computers
Today's session was to allow students to create a Wordle (word cloud) for the Squamish Elementary contest run by Mrs. Paxton. They were very effective I thought (better in colour) but some forget to save and need more time to re-create. Others printed but at a screen size so we have some bugs to iron out.

Math 7
7 students to complete their math test today
Problem solving Fridays
Bar Graph example today: all graphs need a title, ruler drawn lines and an accurate scale, need to show the information asked for clearly and accurately.
11:30-12 we had math games and some student went to assist with the primary music class.

1-2pm Buzz Brass performance
A retrospective of music throughout the ages

2-3pm Honour Band practice

Art Egyptian profiles and hieroglyphics

Dismissal
have a good weekend.
Mrs. J.
