Jan 18th, Wednesday

Need to be quick tonight. I have a curling game and had to run out of school to keep another appointment!!
At home now...

Homework (stuff to do at home)
Spelling test List #5 tomorrow
Math 7 study for adding and subtracting integers unit test tomorrow
If you are one of the eight students who are still plugging away at your socials project- you know what is expected

Reminders
Tomorrow afternoon Teresa, Nic and Harjot represent our class and themselves at the 6th Annual School Spelling Bee 1pm in the gym- please come if you can :)
Hot lunch $$ due Friday
Popcorn tomorrow
Crazy Hair Day, 1pm musical Buzz Brass- presentation and IEP meetings throughout the day (thank you for returning the confirmations :))

General Day
Class meeting about our recent issues to do with general behaviour toward each other and the classroom space. It was interesting that the students were of the opinion that the custodian's job was to clean up after them!!
Let me just say that I put that right rather quickly. I'll let you know how we roll over the next couple of weeks.

Daily French- a review of the clothing words (especially those needed for cold weather)
Il fait froid- n'est ce pas?

Reading selection form Gary Paulsen's, The River
We read the story together in class and after trying a few comprehension questions, we discussed the setting of the 'adventure'. Students seem to enjoy his tales of teenage survival in the North and the weather seemed suitable for this story set in the far North.
The wind whipped up the snow on the school roof and outside our classroom window it looked like whiteout conditions! Cool- very cool -20 in the windchill apparently- ouch.

Band

Math 7
We completed the on-line quiz together on the overhead and submitted our selections complete with errors (my intention was to let them see where some weakness in thinking the processes through). The students were so convinced they had 100% they were a bit non-plussed when the group score was 7/10. It was interesting for me to see where the errors were made and I was able to tailor some review.
We finally opened the text book to the chapter 9 application sample and students worked today on more practice. I showed them the review test (25% of it had already been written in the mid-point review last week) and suggested what they needed to study. The rest is up to them!!
Peace out!

silent reading

We tried a couple of experiments with the overhead and used it to see how digital media played on it. We went to the School District website and used some of their links to play some National Geographic shorts- the resolution needs a bit of a tweak but it is a very amazing teaching and learning tool that we have the privilege of working on together.

physical education
Team basketball and a class game (the grade threes were swimming so we took advantage (as we miss our Phys. Ed. on Thursday due to the Spelling Bee) and had a double block. For the most part it was good teamwork and sportsmanship.

Back in class we did a bit of a more thorough clean up of the desk tops and floors and reviewed the homework for tomorrow. My new Mantra is that just because the Dismissal bell rings, it does not automatically mean they are free to go. I'll see how that works for us. Today the end of the day was more 'civilized'.
Have a warm evening. I think it is going to be pretty cold at the curling club- well, duh...I mean colder than usual.
Mrs. J.
