Friday the thirteeneth

We didn't make a big deal of it actually! Happy belated birthday, Manisha, enjoy your Friday dinner at Boston Pizza.

Homework
Every student has the weekend to tidy up and complete the socials project which is due next week

Approximately 14 students were interested in being the class spelling bee for determining the top three spellers for Thursday next week- those participating have a Can spell booklet of words to practice this weekend . Class Bee is Monday afternoon

Math 7 one sample numeracy problem to solve for Monday's class

General Day
Daily French

Bibliography instruction and sample handout to assist with the organization of citation of sources

Socials time in class
socials (or science) time at computer lab

Math 7 corrected last page examples from the subtraction of integers booklet
TPS we completed 6 sample multiple choice numeracy problems independently, with a partner and together in class going  over the different methods for solving them.
I am not recording the results on the problem solving but the 'achievement' on them is all over the map from 0/6 - 6/6!! A handful of students are having difficulty recognizing what arithmetic functions need to be undertaken to solve the samples and the frustrating thing is that those tend to be the same students that could be more attentive in class and during instruction!

1-2pm honour band session with Ms. Sorban

In class we used this afternoon to work on the Egyptian profiles (sketch, design and colour) and analyse the hieroglyphic Egyptian alphabet to create our names in a cartouche which we then attached to the profile- only a handful need a bit more work. Many students managed to complete them this afternoon.

Lucas a former student visited at the end of the school day and I used the opportunity to have the grade sevens ask him any questions about grade eight. The questions were interesting (and reasonable) and Lucas answered them seriously and with respect. I didn't coach him and I was pleasantly surprised by his answers
which were similar to what I have been telling them about organization, homework habits and studying for tests, reviews and , of course, year end exams. Thank Lucas, you can visit any time (okay maybe not any time but you know what I mean!).

The afternoon just disappeared and dismissal was upon us before I knew it. manged to keep their attention long enough to review next week's busy schedule and go over the homework.

Have a good weekend and get busy completing those socials projects :)

  1. Hey Miss. Jay, Do you think I'll have time at school to print my socials project? Luke won't let me print it here.

  2. Hi Kel
Absolutely- we have computer time on Monday afternoon that's still booked. Remember we are doing the Spelling Bee thing so if you need access to print- that's fine. No worries. Hey, Thanks for the communication. See you tomorrow :)
