Busy day that seems to have whizzed by...what's with all this speed?
I sometimes wonder if it is just me that senses things generally are hectic and frenzied.
There was a significant amount of whining today both from me and the students! Let's hope tomorrow is calmer as I feel wiped out by the pace of things.
Homework
nothing new today
Math 7 try to complete the booklet (fractions-decimals) if you didn't finish it in class
Spelling test 8 Thursday (those who need to make up a spelling test 7- be prepared for tomorrow)
Reminders
Today the students have a self assessment to share with you regarding Term 1 work habits- please ask them to give it to you (I still have 4: Eric's, Kelli's , Manisha's and Ashley's- they can pick them up to bring home tomorrow)
General Day
Daily French
spelling study
novel time to work on the last projects for the end of the novel, Who is Frances Rain?
Many are working on an ABC summary and the other most popular activity seems to be the Jeopardy board for which I encourage studnets to first create and word process their questions before they get the poster board for the presentation.
Math 7
review and correct the practice converting fractions to decimals to percent and back again
Most students completed the booklet today and are ready to tackle the 'apply' problems in the text book p138 # 16-19 Mathlinks7
Again, a good class but we were so busy that I forgot to give them their numeracy rubrics and must remember to get the students to update their index pages. Sometimes the time together goes so fast that it is lunchtime before we know it!!
silent reading - provided some extra help for students who had a bit of a struggle with the fraction to decimal conversion :)
French - les phrases- follow up the activity from the J'ai Faim booklet (last week) and we wrote the answers en francais to six questions about the students' favourite foods, pizza toppings and shopping malls!!
We reviewed the questions in French: Qui? Que, Quelle, Qu'? Pourquoi? Ou? Quand? Comment? et Combien?
Phys Ed. we had to stop the activity today and review safety and sportsmanship- the game was only partly to blame- we need to work a bit more on teamwork- I find some students get so competitive and other are less than enthusiastic that it makes for a challenge to include everyone.
We finished with a good team building exercise which unfortunately had to be cut short- no more dodge ball for a while.
Parallel sketching- 'Complete a Cheetah' once we had unpacked the issues we were facing in the gym, we tried a sketching activity which engages both sides of the brain. It was amazing how much quieter and settled the students became as they made effort to concentrate on the lines of the cheetah.
Then the afternoon was over - the bell rang for dismissal as we were in the midst of sketching!
I distributed the work habits assessment sheets after quickly reviewing the homework.
Have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
