Monday, November 7th

'Ick Poo' it is so dark out already that I just want to run home but places to go people to meet- it's the all-candidates meeting tonight! There are so many!!!

Our day was a little strange- the students were wired or tired (I mean Halloween was last week). I know I was tired and a bit imaptient with the constant chatter!

Homework and Reminders
Math 7 complete 10 (most have 4 or five more examples to do) decimal division examples for practice (have about five already handed in)
Math 6 finish INC worksheets
Novel Reader response #3 is due now (get it in this week) and remember it does not have to be word processed
Spelling Test 6 Thursday

Volleyball Tuesday and Thursday
Remembrance Day Assembly Thursday 10:45am
Stat Holiday Friday- no school

General Day
Daily French

Spelling List #6 and  double puzzle activity- which students spent less time completing than it took for me to create the activity  - don't you just hate that (it's like spending an hour making a fancy dish for dinner and it's gone in minutes). Good job- I need to challenge them more it seems!!

Math 7 Quiz #3 on dividing decimal numbers back to students. Good news is that it was another 20% fail/80% pass rate which means 5 students need to do some remedial (or study practice) before the redo of the quiz (some asked for the redo on Wednesday others next Monday- I have agreed to offer both dates!!)
Some observations about this quiz were the patterns of error...
  1. students were moving the decimal on the divisor BUT forgetting to adjust the dividend by the same number of decimal places
  2. students were forgetting to add a zero to the end of quotients or when they appeared in the middle of quotients
  3. accuracy- just the presentation of the work was difficult for me to follow- I need to provide more space on the quizzes for the working to be included
Today we simply did some more decimal division practice from the oldest text on the planet called Practice, Practice, Practice (no kidding! 1982) Today we did 10 students choice questions from p.132 (I asked for them to choose 10 even numbers- it was too challenging- so we ended up agreeing- just choose 10 to practice!!) I was busy doing 'rounds' and providing one-one assistance and am happy that students are finally asking for help.

Remembrance Day- setting up the class for playing a pivotal part in organizing our Thursday assembly. Discussed the reasons and history of the memorial. Recently, Mr. Fenton (one of our past Remembrance Day speakers), passed on. He was one of our local War Veterans and we will remember his service for us at our assembly this year.
Students will be responsible for the Bulletin diplay, the poppy sales, distribution of the program to parents/teachers and the set up of the gym and sound system, the history speech and the acceptance of the wreaths. There will also be a choir performance. Ms. Gregoire's class will be MCing and speaking. If you can make it you are welcome to attend.

the students spent time on the RCL website and were impressed with the quality of the art and literature of the past winners. All of the contest winners have their work displayed as far back as 2004. It is a well organized site if you have a minute you might want to check it out.
I took the opportunity of being in the lab to show the students our class blog and the readership around the world- some were non-plussed by it (why would anyone read it?) and others thought it was cool!

Back in class we organized for the day's end- the day went so quickly today that I wonder if the hour we gained this weekend was to blame??!!??
Have a dry and warm evening. I will eventually get home!!
