General Day

New seating plan in action today- went well- just some minor placement alterations

Daily French- showed my students that I need to use my BBFF (Best Book for French) the Larousse dictionary to find the wording of some phrases like 'seating plan' :)

Spelling- return test #6 and distribute and complete word analysis on 15 words for list #7 from the closing chapters of the novel.
activity- word search (again students completed the activity quickly)
This left some time for reading and working on either novel Response #3 or the creative project work to complete the book.

Band

Math 7 Redo Quiz #3 half of the class took this opportunity (about 14) :)
The others worked quietly on catching up and moving forward- today's activity was adding and subtracting decimals to solve Magic Squares and triangles (which are kind of like one section of a sudoku puzzle)

An FYI assignment reminder was sent home for students to check their binders for work still to be completed or handed in (or both!) Follow up tomorrow...

Silent Reading- some students are having a difficult time using this time wisely!! I'll stay on top of it but you'd think that by now they would have figured it out!!

Socials- lesson intention was to present the 'history' of ancient man from paleolithic from 500,000 BCE to Urban Revolution in the 3500 BCE era and to provide a reference 'story' for them to connect to the developments.
After a brief overview of when those times were and what developments of 'ancient man' were typical, we read the research story of Otzi, the Iceman, who was discovered in the Alps between Italy and Austria in 2001. Research has proven that Otzi was a Neolithic trader and was mummified under the ice to the point that scientists were able to determine his last meal, what killed him and prove his 'origin' in order that the fight over him was settled- he went back to Italy. His clothing and materials he was carrying with him were preserved too. It is fascinating to learn that using modern technology (CAT scan machines) we can learn so much from scientific research and archaeology.
Just Google Iceman, Otzi, and you'll find a wealth of information about the trader from Italy who died nearly 5500 years ago.

That's just what we did today at computer time. After the follow up from class- some time for reader responses and competition poems for Remembrance Day was provided- some students were up to date and had some free time.

Library book exchange with Mrs. H.- students are taking advantage of all the new additions to our school library- they really seem to love reading and books- it makes my heart and soul happy :)

Back in class- it was later than intended as we spent a bit longer at computers and the library than we had planned. We reviewed the work for home and the week's reminders, cleaned and packed up for the evening.
Wow, I hope the week slows down a bit.Today was crazy fast!

Have a warm evening.
Mrs. J.
