Beautiful day today- the peak of the mountain was so 'sharp' and picturesque that I wished I'd brought my camera. It is such a pretty view. We are so lucky to be teaching and learning in such a pretty spot (except in the socked in months).

Spelling test #2 and Test #1 redo for those students who would like to try again.
Writing assignment after instruction on what a paragraph is and needs to have using the visual of a hamburger: top of bun= the topic sentence, the meat= the main idea, the bottom of the bun is the conclusion holding the ideas together and, of course, we can't miss the fixings which add flavour and interest. In a paragraph the 'fixings' are the details and the creative words and elements in one's writing that add interest and flair. I ask students for a minimum of 6 to 7 sentences.
Writing choice(s): I am thankful for... OR My favourite Season. OR a creative one called the Turkey's last Plea (convice the farmer not to choose you for Thanksgiving dinner) :)
Students chose one and did a rough draft in class- at computers, we used the Word program to word process a good copy. Everyone managed to complete the assignment although I have my work cut out for me on building up paragraph and sentence competence.
Math 7
Quiz redo Rounding Numbers: (those not redoing, worked on a bonus number search worksheet which everyone will have the chance to do in their own time. FYI every now and then I provide opportunity for 'bonus' type activites as they give us a chance to refresh and look at something not currently being instructed in class. They can also be fun! I encourage students to finish them and hand them in- I will record them and use them later in the term. They're like 'saving' for a rainy day!
We also managed to review and correct the rest of the first page of the multiplying by 10's booklet. I have asked students to be prepared tomorrow for a look at pp. 57-58. I am asking them to compare how they completed the work to how I would like them to complete the math work (yes, that means that I have to do the homework that I set for them but sometimes I think it's easier to have a visual instead of just hearing my dulcet tones trelling them what I would like so the extra little bit of work on my part pays off in the long run!! I hope!
Silent Reading - record for day progress in reading- I am finding that I have a few 'readers' who are flibberty gibbet and can't seem to settle to reading and instead are picture flippers- I will be monitoring that and ensuring that even if it is non-fiction some text is actually read. Research shows clearly that readers have better vocabulary, better sense of plot and story and that the more they read the better readers they become. So if there is a set time to read then I would like to see it used to improve reading skills. (thank-you- rant over- I'll get off my soap box now)
French- Arrangez-Vous- sentence game which is actually great for understanding sentence structure too. Student get individual coloured vocabulary words (some pronouns, nouns, verbs and articles). When a colour is called say vert, all students with green words come to the front huddle and then arrange themselves into a sentence which we then read in French and translate into English. The students did quite well for the first activity and we only had a few minor adjustments in placement.
Housekeeping- thought I'd ensure the forms etc. that I am forgetting at the end of the day should be distributed NOW before Phys. Ed. (see reminders above to review the paper that went home to parents today). I did homework and reminders at this time too!
Cross Country runners left at 2:30pm. Good Luck at the last meet in Brackendale.
Phys. Ed. It looked like a great afternoon but the ambient temperature has dropped. We headed out to the back field for a game of California Kickball. It was fast and fun and we all moved around in the cold sunshine! Thanks to Harjot for helping me ref the game. It was a close one 11-9 for the winning team.
Good job everyone. I want to congratulate you all on participation, team work and creating an enjoyable session. Consider yourselves "hugged"!
By the time we got back to class it was time to grab our things and go.
Another one bites the dust.
Have a great evening :)
Mrs. J.
