General Day
Greek/Latin root words vocabulary activity- did the first one together to help the students understand both the intetntion and the pattern of the activity expectations- was pretty straightforward and roots introduced were mater, aqua, gen, bio and spec. Daily use words were generated from the roots: maternal, generation, aquarium, spectacle anmd biology.
We learned the Latin motto Pluribus unum (USA) means "from many, one" or "one, from many"
The Canadian motto is A mare usque ad mare meaning "from sea to sea"
Novel time was provided (approx. 35-40 minutes) Let me just observe that not all used their time wisely!
Math today we looked at the area of a circle and how to calculate when the radius and/or diameter are known.
11:25- noon we took our 'horse and pony show' down to the computer lab and spent another 40 minutes working (or providing time for work) on the social studies travelogues OR the novel activities which need access to the internet or Word documents.
Spent lunchtime in the gym doing some 'simulation' type activities for long jump and shot put as the weather today precluded taking the students out to throw a shot put or do long jump in the teeming rain. More than half of them are not 'prepared' to be standing in the rain or sitting wet and steamy all afternoon. If it was just the grade sevens it would be fair game BUT there are nearly 35 grade three and four students- enough said!
Thanks to the grade sevens for the assistance- I really apprecitated it and couldn't have done it without you. Merci beaucoup :)
DEAR time -spent bringing a student who missed this morning up to speed with his math! The rest of the students seemed to be doing their thing without a problem- sometimes lunch times are busy (choir, band, leadership, athletics etc.) so to get that reading and quiet time after lunch time is a gift (for us all).
Personal Planning: anatomy- reproductive system(s)
Review of the learning from last week's session on the male reproductive system and I must say I was pleasantly surprised how much information was retained- just had to sort out a couple of small forgotten issues. We played what I thought would be an interactive way to review with a small whiteboard per group but the activity took twice as long due to the 'novelty' of the method!! The best laid plans...
We managed to get started on the Female reproductive system today and will complete the lesson tomorrow as we were geting close to our gym time and the students were beginning to get antsy!
Phys. Ed.
We played a cooperative circle dodge game with the class. I was running out of patience with a few of my usual suspects who continually waste time in gym with silly antics and comments so I was grateful for a 20 minute session in the gym.
Big shout out to Quin who was very understanding about my error in missing his number in the call out. Thanks for being so understanding. I'll get you first next time - Remind Me.
3pm Dismissal
Have a dry evening.
Mrs J.
