Tuesday May 31st

Wow- again - the last day of May -que tempus fugit! Also, a sunny day- such a blessing- what a difference the sun makes!

Good luck to all our Squamish Elementary track athletes who finally managed to head to Whistler for the Track Meet. Enjoy and do your best :)

Homework
Socials travelogue now at day 7 (of 8) and a reminder that there will be computer time for 'good copies' tomorrow
Math- booklet for practising fraction - addition and subtraction finding common denominators
Reminder that tomorrow is the due date for the permission forms and payment for Evans Lake camp (unless otherwise arranged) we need to confirm our school numbers with the camp by Thursday

General Day
Bit chatty- excitement for the track meet perhaps [and I must add how awesome they look in their new track uniforms] or the upcoming Camp trip or the news that we have managed to book Splashdown Park for the end of June or the sunshine...

Given a choice, the grade sevens opted to start Day 7 of our virtual trip to Greece ( I think everyone will be truly glad to get 'back to Squamish' lol)
Day 7 took us to the ancient Greek 'spa' environment of Epidaurus- in the heart of the countryside- one of the most relaxing spots of the whole trip. Epidaurus was a destination for rest and healing and the atmosphere around the spacious and orchard-like grounds was one of quiet, peaceful relaxation.

Band

Math- I have distributed some booklets from a grade six review workbook for adding fractions- today we managed to get approx. half of the work completed.
Some students are still finding difficulty in identifying common denominators (or are forgetting how) practice, practice and some more practice will help the procedure become second nature that and really working on recall of mulitiplication/division facts.

Family Groups- Sports day cheers with the Pink Panthers
Shhhh top secret- if I tell you I'd have to .......

DEAR time welcome to Mrs. Fanzega's Grade fours- they fit in very well this afternoon

Art
Before the Simpsons and before his name was synonomous with avant garde television animation, a talented cartoonist by the name of Matt Groening (who, by the way, was told he'd never amount to anything if he kept 'wasting' his time drawing and doodling!) was quietly pefecting his art.
He created a(n) hilarious cartoon book called, School is Hell, and today the students shared one of his cartoons about junior high ('how to make everyone else as misreable as you are') which was a spoof on all the crazy characters that inhabit a typical junior high classroom. I have challenged the students to create their own real or imagined version of the cartoon using Gr 7 as a model- no names to identify the characters- there really is no need- but it is intended to be a gentle spoof or exaggeration of all the silly antics that drive us to distraction. The students managed to get some artistic beginnings started today.
Some were really taken instead with the cartoon about Bongo's Dream House and they prefered to create their own dream house- one partnership decided that they'd like to set up home in a microwave- don't ask- it's apparently a creative venture- I'll see where it goes- the project not the microwave!

Phys. Ed. I had 20 students including 4 grade fours and we played Battleships (the new game I tried to introduce yesterday) with much better results - once again reminding me that our gym is a friendlier place when I am not trying to jam in 30 grade sevens. Everyone had fun (even the gade four students who were a little intimidated to start). Yeah.

We finished the day with about 20 minutes at the computer lab (free time or socials logs) using Mrs. Fanzega's session time- that's why the Blog is a bit faster being posted today!

It was a pleasant afternoon. Actually it was a pretty great day today...
Have a nice evening- get into the sun if it is still shining.
Mrs. J.
