Tuesday May 17th

Computer and general access is back to normal :)

Homework
As is on board in classroom (and has been discussed in class)

By end of this week Thursday- ALL overdue (old) Science and Socials assignments (some date back as far as the beginning of April!!)
Current work needing completion: Socials Day 5 travelogue (Delphi) - access to computer lab tomorrow and Science Ch 4 Review and crossword
Math unit review test on Area and Perimeter Thursday- practice booklet issued today (half completed in class) have asked students to take home and use the remaining examples as practice and for review in class tomorrow
Reminders
PLZ...UBC forms and Camp forms ASAP
No school Friday and Monday (Victoria Day long weekend)

FYI - just so you know...
I remind students on a daily basis about what they need to complete or are missing. There is a poster on the board incase they forget. Time is provided on a daily basis for completing these assignments. Lost papers can be easily re-issued if necessary but obviously I need to know in order to re-issue them!

I have a few who play the 'at home'/ 'at school' game! Regardless to assess an assignment, I need to have it - end of story. Time to step up personal responsibilities is right about now (before junior high!).

General Day
French - Bonne Fete- l'histiore en image et en francais
The visual story (comic style) allows the students to see and develop understanding of sentence/question format and recognize vocabulary we have been learning in conversational style.
Activities include Vrai ou Faux (true or false) and faites le match (make a match) formats to show understanding. Will complete this activity on Thursday.

Band

Math- after yesterday's 'bomb' of an idea for review, I created a four page step by step booklet to provide ALL students with the same samples and problems to solve as a practice and review guide for the upcoming review test on Thursday. We managed to get through half of it in class today and completed the working on the board for reference. Students MUST show their working from the recall of the formula, the substitution of the known lengths and widths (etc.),  the solution as well as the correct answer complete with the measurement and dimensions (squared or cubed) to get full credit. Some are having an issue with this - once again, I need to add that this is an important math skill to learn this year BEFORE you find yourself having to hear it all over again in junior high math class. Honest!
11:30-12 Family Groups: White Wolves and The Pink Panthers
We linked up with our 'sister and brother' groups which we will be competing with as a team for the June Sports day and today we practiced some team work in relay type activites. Big thrill it wasn't raining :)

Big shout out to Callista, Navdeep and Lucas who took time out this afternoon to attend to the equipment room in the gym. Thanks- you did a great job :)

DEAR time- the usual issues- readers, doodlers, time wasters, social eye contacters, chatters, sneakers, catcher-uppers etc... all accounted for!
I have reissued 10 camp forms (some for the third time) to all students who have not yet returned them in the hope it might spur on some action!!
Some students also needed some math extra help.

Art it seems so long since we have had enough time to spend on an art lesson. Today we looked at the gernre of Pop Art and Andy Worhol's soup cans piece. I challenged the students to find a snack or drink that they take for granted everyday and save the wrapper and or the packet (juice box) to really examine the play with colour and text and see what they perhaps have never seen before. We practiced today on those foil packet drinks made by Kool-Aid because I had enough in class to share in each group. Once this was underway, it was Phys Ed. time...will continue work on the art once back from the gym.

Phys Ed. we discovered during our morning relays that our fields are really nasty and boggy;  it has been so wet it is almost inviting injury to run on them. We took our gym time inside and I tried my best to set up a fun indoor game of Kick Ball. It started well enough :)
Unfortunately, it became more and more contentious to the point that we had to abandon the game due to the unsportsmanlike beahviour of a few, others were either unable or unwilling to listen to or follow the rules that had been set up, some were disrespectful of the referee's whistle...I think you get the picture. We headed back to class after about 30 minutes to try to resume the art activity and finish the day with some semblance of order :) Whew!!
My 25c worth- I think that it will be refreshing for these students to be in separate male and female Physical Education classes next year- they will have properly trained Phys Ed teachers at the junior high and, as far as I know, classes are not co-ed. I know they will learn fast what I have been trying to instill in them this year about Physical Education classes ...

Art - managed to pull it together for the rest of the afternoon :) The close up drawings are looking good...thanks for the idea Mr. Worhol :)
3pm dismissal
Have a great evening.
Mrs. J.
