Thursday, May 19th

Thursday/Friday today, two days in one- remember no school tomorrow for students. Have a nice long weekend- the weather is expected to be warm and sunny (:))

Homework
The 'old' assignments are so 'old' that it's time to wave bye, bye and move on!!! Approx. 6 students were unable to meet the deadline(s) set. The good news is that 24 of 30 did (80%)
Current work in need of completion:
Science: Ch 4 review and crossword
Socials Day 5 Delphi factoid worksheet and travelogue entry

Reminders:
Forms for UBC (!!!!!!!)
Camp commitment(!!!!!!!)
Track and Field
congratulations to the ten students who made the Grade 7 Track and Field team this year. The district Meet in next Thursday, May 26th [No permission form= no go]

General Day
French- completed the activities which we began Tuesday for l'histoire: Bonne Fete

Played and listened to Billy Joel's, We didn't start the Fire as part of our introduction to poetry, lyrics and music imagery and content. Will follow the 'history' of it next week as it needs more time!

Band

Math - Area, perimeter and volume: review test- the students made individual cheat sheets and used them for a formulae memory aid during today's review test. I look forward to finding out what we have learned (and what we need to re-visit!)

DEAR time: comings and goings- appraently there is a movie being shot around these parts and a number of students are 'extras'

Introduction to a 'project' idea for studying Roman Civilization in the coming weeks (June). I had each group have a look at some sample Roman Newspapers (Roman Knows, Roman Around, Roman Province(s) Roman Chariot etc.), in which a number of personal research, sleuthing and cultural stories, editorials and articles were 'published' by former students.  I have asked the students to think about a BIG question that they would like to find the answer to regarding the Ancient Romans and their civilization. We have spent the year analysing the earliest organizations of people, the first great river civilizations, Mesoamerica and Greece so I feel confident that the students can formulate an avenue of interest to research and create a section in a group newspaper project.

Art
Pop Art inspired by Andy Worhol
the student worked diligently- if a little noisily - on their close up obesrvations of everyday wrappers and drink containers- some managed to catch the colours perfectly. It was nice to have some time to spend on artistic skills- lots of talent artictically.

3pm clean up and dismissal
Mountain Bike Race after school - Good luck to Callista, Chloe and Saleena (and Lexie? Did you get your bike?)
Enjoy the Victoria Day long weekend. See everyone on Tuesday.
Mrs. J.
