Yeah...we made it to Spring Break :) Friday March 18th

We were fortunate enough today to have a special Friday afternoon presentation by Ache Brasil, a Brazilian capoeria dance and acrobatic performance which we have just finished watching. It was very entertaining and energetic and I think the students enjoyed the show.

Homework over the Spring Break
Read the novel (some have Tuck Everlasting and others have Surviving the Applewhites)
Other than that...get some rest, everyone get well and have a safe and relaxing break from school and I'll see everyone again March 28th for Term 3

General Day
Started the day with an energetic game of floor hocky that we played by 'number' (line hockey). It worked well enough except the team members were a bit uneven and one team had a shut out while the other team was becoming frustrated by the constant 'attack'. Good sportsmanship though considering the out matching of the teams.
We continued with some personal planning- magazine marketing is saturated with mixed messages and to continue our look at the images we are bombarded by in the media, we took a couple of different magazines today and asked the question..."What's being sold?" to very interesting results. Some of the advertising is very risque and we discussed the different messages boys and girls are taking from the experience!!
Science:
We did group KWL charts for the uocoming chenistry unit. A KWL gives me an idea what they already K= Know and W= want to learn in the unit and L= Learned, I asked them to try to recall things (especially expriments) they have learned or completed in other classes just so I can keep it 'fresh' and new- there's nothing so boring as the same 'experiments' every year. The students had a difficult time keeping the lid on this but we managed to complete it just before lunch.

DEAR time was as interesting as it has been all week- I have given an advance warning that after Spring Break we will be returning to reading as a class!!

1:30-2:15 we had an assembly to enjoy the Ache Brasil performers

We finished the day at computers.
Back in class, we cleaned up the class, the cloakroom and the genral detrius from the day!! Wished everyone a wonderful spring break
