No Blog yesterday as I attended a workshop on Adolescent Sexuality in Vancouver.
It was an excellent workshop and covered many topics about teaching adolescent health and healthy sexuality that I intend to share with parents, as well as my charges, after Spring Break. I learned lots of new and improved information about teaching in this area- please remember teaching this topic is not a "how to..." lesson but imparts necessary information about anatomy and values which our young people have a right to know. The intention of the program is to inform anmd promote good decsision making among our youth. Hopefully, they will be able to decide how the information fits in with their personal and family values. Our young people more than ever have to make decisions in our society that will have lasting implications in their lives and some of the things they have to contend with are pretty scary from a parental perspective!!
Yesterday, the TOC , Ms. Drenka, had a decent day with the class and I feel all the better for having had a day's break form the classroom and my students. They were productive and managed to get through the dayplan I left for them. Just a couple of things to follow up.
Productive day today too- although once again I had approx. six students away!!
Homework
Assignment and assessment cut off today (unless students have been away ill and many have)
I have a list in class of certain assignments that need to be completed or handed in as is.
I need to complete Term 2 reports this weekend and need
- SRA booklets
- most recent math test (today)
- term 2 reflective letter
- the remaining spelling activites
- the remaining science work for Ch 7
General Day
shared some information from the workshop I attended with the students
Unit 20 spelling test
time to work on assignments incomplete or read
Band class
Math test- review quiz on solving equations using the preservation of equality and then checking by substitution (it's like another language isn't it? It is another language!!)
DEAR time - more chance to get up to speed with assignments that were incomplete yesterday or to read independently
Art
Our schoool Art Show is coming up fast and one area we need a bit more time for is art- there are some truly talented artists and some times we just don't get enough time so while some students did their best to complete work that they need to hand in, the others worked most of the afternoon, and very well I might add, on their artistic endeavours.
3pm took us a bit of time to clean up at the end of the day (and I still had to 'finish' the job after the studens were dismissed!! Somedays it is less hassle to do it myself!!!) :)
A newsletter went home today.
Reminder about the Grad hoodie form and payment ($25) by March 11th if you want to purchase one
Anyone wishing to purchase from the March 2011 Scholastic catalogue has until Monday
FYI
I need to have the term report cards into Mrs. Paxton on Monday for her perusal and check.
Have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
