Getting a bit of a head start on today's blog as I have yet another meeting after school tonight!! It is the scheduled staff meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.
Congratualtions to the girls' team who had a decisive win against the Garibaldi Highlands.
I can't believe how spring-like the weather is again today especially when other parts of the country are experiencing nasty storms and winter weather. My sister is in Simcoe, Ontario and says she hasn't seen the concrete of her driveway due to the snow since late November, 2010.
Homework
Unit 16 spelling test
Math- I would like every student to make their BEST effort to complete or at least try the algebra booklet we started in class today- it is asking them to create an expression or equation form the given written information. Students need to read carefully to formulate the words into a mathematical equivalent
Now awaiting 8 UBC forms and payment
General Day
Started today with a language arts/French lesson on the importance of the verb to be (anglais) and etre (francais)- sorry about the missing accents as I can't figure out how to get my keyboard to recognize them yet!)- this verb is the most important auxiliary verb in both languages for forming the basis of all other verb tenses.
Word Nerd Chapter 19 in which Cosmo and Ambrose try to win back Amanda by looking like crazy fools in love and singing 'Darlin' to her outside her apartment. She's not 100% convinced but agrees to give them a second chance. Ambrose inadvertently (on purpose) saves Cosmo from himself when he stows away in his car and stops him from buying drugs!! He (Ambrose) gets Cosmo off to an NA meeting instead.
Math- algebra
We completed and corrected the booklet set yesterday (lots of students not being serious about homework as a chance to practice!!) and reviewed the procedure for using the given value of a variable to find the solution to an equation. Today we started another look at taking written language and creatring a mathematical number sentence or expression using the variable. Practice, practice and more practice- it really isn't 'difficult' as concepts go; however, some students are having a difficult time seeing the patterns and using the procedure consistently!!
FSA section 3 - short writing piece- persusive writing- some students used the computer and others preferred to write it out. If you have any questions or concerns about it let me know as I will be happy to share my opinions about the FSA structure and expectations!
DEAR time - caught up with a few who need to complete assignments- also provided time for the science work that isn't completed as I want to begin Ch 8 on Friday!!
At computers we went to the math web sites that I mentioned yesterday for the students to see what kind of on-line pracice was available for them to get some different examples. Some free time was also afforded to those who had finished the mandatory part of the session.
Back to class to pack up so we couple head to the gym for a 'rushing basketball' game with the whole class
- I was beginnming to lose my number count though and, much to the dismay of some students, I was calling the same numbers back to back because this time we tried to play the game three on three (six players with sideline backup). For the most part it worked much better than yesterday and some of the plays were very fast. Next time I will be sure to map out my calling numbers as there are many variations of three on three when you have 29 students to call on!! Sheesh!
3pm Dismissal
Have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
