Tuesday Feb 8th

It's more like late April except for the cold wind in the morning!!
The view of Mount Garibaldi was spectacular today.
Class today was less vibrating energy and more focus :)

Homework
Continue work on the creative storyline (see Monday- we put a bit more time into it today). Students should have a clear idea of what and who their creative strories are intended to be about by using the web brainstorming activity started Monday in class.
Ch 7 science review (word search)
Spelling Unit 17 activity (now have 18 of 29!)
Unit 17 spelling test Friday 11th
Head's Up
FSA part 4 tomorrow (extended writing section)
UBC fieldtrip to Chan Centre Thursday

General Day
French verb (etre) activity recognizing and using the various parts of the verb in les phrases. Also instruction on using adjective endings which agree with the pronoun. Good session.

Band class

Word Nerd Ch 25 in which Ambrose, his mother, Mr. Acheson (his mom's 'date'), Amanda, Cosmo and the goons all end up giving statements at the Vancouver Police headquarters in East Vancouver!! Ambrose's mom is rather rude to Amanda and Mr. Acheson on the drive to the police station. Ambrose enjoys telling the truth ,the whole truth and nothing but the truth for once and he is happy there wasa police officer to protect him from his mom!!!

Math Review and correct last two pages of the booklet providing practice for reading problems and creating mathematical sentences and solving them. Once again (I first distributed this worksheet last Thursday) over half of the students had not completed it in the time provided both in class and/or at home.
We completed a quiz (5 questions) on writing equations and started a problem solving sample for class practice which we will review tomorrow- most finished in class today.

DEAR had to remind some who were using reading timw to work on art that Art does not equate to reading!! [Although I'll be first to admit art time has been severely interrupted the last few weeks!]

Brainstorming story webs using the ideas of students to inspire them to come up with creative story ideas.

Physical Education: tried a new team game today which worked (kind of ) okay. I find it interesting that this group of students generally does not embrace change very smoothly- I heard lots of complaints and whines but I persevered and, while it might not rate in their top ten, I am happy that we tried something different which wasn't dodge ball related!!! Most took part reluctantly but were able to try to follow new rules. That is a great LEAP FORWARD from last year's classes. :)

Art - now it was time for art- funny how some are unable to actually engage in anything after 2:30pm!!
Anyway, on a positive note, the landscapes and some of the rotation pieces are coming together slowly but surely and are looking good so far. Need to schedule a bit more morning time perhaps for art!!??!!

3pm Dismissal
Girl's worked hard to get rides to Stawamus for a basketball game tonight. Good luck girls.
See everyone tomorrow.
Mrs. J.
