The vocabulary needed for the word search for French was given on the board and the students worked some more on the French booklet while I read...
Chapter 3 class read aloud, Dear GC Please Marry my Mother, I think I need to abbreviate that title as it is so long and I get fed up typing it out!!! Anyway the book seems to be picking up a bit. Today the chapter was about the protagonist Violet's,  perspective on her mother's string of 'loser' boyfriends since she divorced her husband- Violet's dad. I think the students enjoyed it!

Math problem soving example that reminded students of the four key elements to providing a complete solution. Those steps are: choose an appropriate strategy, show working and or computation, find accurate solution and make a final statement of answer which includes the correct solution to the problem asked. Neatness certainly helps whan work is being assessed so it is also a good idea to ensure numerals are legible and the work is presented in an organized manner that can be followed and understood.

Family Groups activity: What makes your Heart Glad? We listened to the song by Julie Andrews, My Favourite Things, and I tried very hard not to sing along!! Then we talked about the things that make us happy- the things that help us get through the tough days. The students worked in pairs creating their own 'glad hearts' and comparing them to each others. It was a joyful activity and I had the chance to see a couple of my grade sevens step up the the plate and show me their leadership skills as they worked so matrely with the younger students. Impressive.

DEAR time took a while to get settled but was good once we got there!!

Good luck to the girls basketball team who left at 1:30pm for Whistler to play a game against Myrtle Philip.

The rest of us took some time to complete the math problem in class and I was pleasantly surprised at how many were able to solve it accurately. We just had to work on the presentation of the answer and the inclusion of the working that would be considered part of a complete answer.

Phys. Ed. with the girls away we were able to split the boys into three teams of five (+ 2 goalies) for a floor hockey session. They played 5 minute sessions and did a good job- I think they enjoyed it- it certainly was fast play. Some impressive moves, saves and teamwork.

There was only 15 minutes left before the end of the day- I tried to do something unstructured (pack up for the day while listening to some music on the computer) but it is very difficult for some students to contain themselves and I had to shut it down!!

3pm Dismissal
Have a good evening.
Mrs. J.
