Friday Oct 15th TGIF :)

Great end to a busy and challenging week.

I have now sent home the newsletter to set our parent meeting dates (not parent-teacher interview dates!!) and as I said last night on the Blog, I am extending the meetings to two dates Mon Oct 18th AND Wednesday Oct 27th in the hope that I can accommodate as many parents as possible. Hope you can make at least one of the dates.

Homework
Nothing New....but...
I have asked students to continue reading the novel ch 11-15 for a partner activity next week.
There are a number of students that need to complete the novel assignment for the reader's response for Ch 6-10 (it was due today!) As I have given them the weekend (there was no computer time today) So they need to have their notes written into paragraphs for Monday.
some students (they know who they are) have overdue work to complete- refer to the green flags in their binders) for more information.
Sent home a yellow form for permission for in-class assistance from Mrs. Kurki and the newsletter asking if you can attend the parent meeting in class referred to above. Please return on Monday Oct 18th.
Thanks

General Day
Phys. Ed. after our class activity yesterday it was a very productive and movement oriented class that we conducted today- great workout and even better participation. There is a general need to improve fitness.
The students did a self-assessment after the class and we finished with a stretch in class.
Spelling test #4 and #3 redo
Math problem solving sample next (these problems were first introduced last Friday) and we have been working on them and how to answer them well a little each day this week. Today was the 'do it for yourself' review of learned skills. I will be able to determine which students have the strategies learned and are confident and who still needs more instruction.
Social Studies- content area information reading THIEVES activity for CH 1 - students partnered up and completed the activity on their own worksheet but with the help of a partner. The acronym helps students to find the content information which is key to understanding factual information texts like those for socials, science, math etc.
Thank goodness for the sun shine at lunch- I had a chance to draw a breath ::)
DEAR time fabulous (still a couple of wigglers!!) that word doesn't quite look right!
Personal Planning -organization and planners and what to finish, homeless papers to a 'home' etc.
Art - we were 'jipped' of art time yesterday so I gave the students the choice of an extended hour for art instead of computer time and they were all over it. We did colourful acrostics using their names and adjectives to describe their personalities. Interesting to say the least- need to do good copies though!

Dismissal at 3pm
As I said - nice Friday. Just as we get it altogether there is another weekend! Hope to see some of you Monday evening. Have a great weekend.
Mrs. J.
