- Spelling test on Thursday Sept 23rd- have asked students to take home their list and study the first 12 words- I will send a home copy of the spelling list tomorrow so they can keep one at home
- students have a rounding number booklet to complete for math- some may find it a little too difficult but I have asked if they could all at least make an effort to try a few for practise (approx. 5 students finished it in class today) Reminder when rounding numbers if the number to the left is 5 or greater the number being rounded is increased by 1 so 15 rounded to the nearest 10 = 20 and 13 to the nearest 10 = 10
2 parent contact forms to get
some students opted to take home their French booklet (Les couleurs de la Nature)- please return it tomorrow
also please remember to bring back to school your Manga style drawing booklet for art class :)
General Day
-Satrted with a look at the eight parts of speech and a round the class exercise recognizing nouns in sentences- the students did a fabulous job and they are all very familiar with nouns :)
-Music was next and the students seemed to be very positive about their progress today
-For Math we looked at the symbolism for greater/less and equal to and we reviewed the process for rounding numbers in the 10s 100s and 1000s as well as decimal rounding. We will look more in depth at the uses for rounding in estimation in class Wednesday
After reading time, we voted on our class agreements and charter and finalised the class motto. This year's motto is very fitting for the group I think. Congratulations to Navdeep for suggesting a fitting class motto that his classmates supported. It is ...
NEVER SAY NEVER
tomorrow we will all sign our class charter which I will share with you once it is signed. I am very excited and encouraged by the class engagement and buy in to supporting each other's learning. This is their creation with a bit of guidance on wording but I have been impressed with the general positive support and encouragement I have witnessed this last couple of weeks.
French was next and we were asking each other the question- Quelle est ta couleur favorite? I heard the question being asked and the students recorded les reponses :)
Phys. Ed. we continued the game from yeterday Circle Dodge and once we got going it was a lot of fun BUT we need to work together on the time wasting and behaviours that are not safe or appropriate. More game time and less management issues is our goal!!
To finish the day (as we had an extra 10 minutes of Phys. Ed.) I distributed the Manga art booklets and the students seemed to be very interested and some wanted to take it home- I said yes BUT as I have no extra it is really important they return them to school for art tomorrow.
Before dismissal, we went over homework and reminders and did agenda time- if you find your son or daughter is not using the agenda please let them know that YOU know we are making agenda time EVERY night before dismissal. We expect it to be used. Thanks
Have a great night.
Mrs J.
