The students have been requesting a new group seating plan.
So today we changed the seating and some group members (although some remain in the same group)- boy, what a process- first I asked for some input and some students made a suggestion which we shared with the class on the board- next came the whinging and after everyone settled down and realized this was not the final rearrangement, the negotiating started - it was like passing a bill at the UN!!!
By the end of the day after an around the class acceptance of the new groupings, we managed to sort it out before the bell for dismissal!!!
YEAH for us- hoping they will work at least for the next two weeks!!! I won't hold my breath!! lol
General Day
Started with a follow up to the Coke versus Diet Coke science demo and a vocabulary (glossary) of the main words we have been using for chemistry in a crossword puzzle (which was completed very quickly by most students :). We also took a look at a giant Periodic Table of the Elements and discussed its discovery and use in science.
One other ironic little tidbit came up to which was very timely considering our current novel...
Did you know? Albert Einstein (a German Jew) was visiting America when the German assault of his people was mounting. He stayed in America and worked as a scientist.
It was his work that led to the development of the first Atomic bomb and its subsequent deployment against the Japanese at the end of the 2nd World War.
In 1952 the element called Einsteinium (ES 252) was discovered by Albert Einstein in the debris of an explosion of an H bomb at Eniwetok in the Pacific Ocean. The element was later made in a nuclear reactor.
We are learning a little something everyday.
