That explains everything...
Monday was a little 'manic' ...could have been the closed in weather or the weekend rest but usually Mondays are quiet and serene...not this Monday.
Homework
Again the socials project is front and centre- students should be ready to write out their paragraphs now using the research notes they have gathered...
Time needs to be used at home especially for the approx. 10 students whose research notes are still incomplete
General Day
Welcome back Rajkaran- he has just returned from a family trip to India- we'll get hm to tell us all about it in the near future
Returned Unit 12 spelling test from last week - results were good (average grade is 12/15 or 80%) a small group (about 5) students are still struggling to study for spelling tests which is the only reason they are not being successful. Otherwise I am very proud of the general work in this area of language.
SRA reading kit- today was one of the quieter sessions and students were very focussed and on-task- good consistent reading and language work has shown increase in both skills and confidence generally. Most students have moved up into a more challenging level for them.
French- review les vetements and accessories (clothing and accessories)- 'project' paper-doll tomorrow
Music after recess with Mrs McPhee
Math onto rotations and a brief explanation of the turns at 90, 180 and 270 degrees- reviewing that a full rotation of 360 degrees takes a figure back to its original place (cw clockwise and ccw counter clockwise rotations were also explained) This kind of math is easier to practice on paper than it is to talk about so the students got started on a worksheet today which we will complete tomorrow (because I really didn't want them to do homework that I might have to have them re-do properly tomorrow!!!)
DEAR after lunch helped calm everyone down and I am impressed with the num,ber oif students who are reading new novels and books they have brought from home (maybe some were gifts for Christmas :)) I want you to know they are reading and people have noticed how quiet it can be in class when we have our DEAR time. My goal is to be able to read too but there always seems rto be something that needs to be dealt with right then!!
And unfortunately, I just undid that great calming down work by offering project time for social studies which was too chatty- I have explained the students if the time (for socials) is used more wisely and quietly I can offer more time this week but I need to enforce quiet work time (like SRA sessions)
I have completed a progress check for all students and I am very much aware of those who need a 'wake-up' call so to speak. Helps me know who needs some assistance. I can't do it for them, though- I am providing everything possible for students to be successful but the end product is their responibility. There are always some who need to learn the hard way.
Today we did an overview and examples were provided as was a worksheet on the proper way to set up a bibliography (borrowed from a high school MLA model) so the students will not have to learn it again next year and will at least be familiar with the procedure.
Finished out the day with computers and encouraged students to type out their notes for socials studies into paragraph formats. I managed to get the time for our lab right today!! 10 minutes of free time made up for Friday's error.
A hot lunch form was distributed today due by Jan. 15th (this Friday)
Have a wonderful evening.
Mrs. J.
