Tuesday November 17th, 2009

This morning I had the most amazing opportunity today to learn about my students. We had a school assembly today and were treated to a highly entertaining presentation with a comedic duo called "Brothers from different Mothers". They have been together for 11 years and are jugglers! I don't know how else to describe them. The students said they remembered them from a couple of seasons back on the show called America has Talent!! (And they were right!!)

So how did I learn about my students? The show was interactive and I learned that Mitchell can juggle really well and that he has practised for years, I learned Darby has great hand-eye coordination and she was so good that they had to get her off the stage before she stole their show, I also learned that Raj has a good eye and can count to 10 in Spanish (not Gutalmalish!!- you had to be there) and finally I learned that the simplist things done well can be a source of inspiration. The music was great too and many of the students have a great sense of rhythm. Not bad for a morning assembly!

Homework tonight
Algebra workbooklet (half of it was done in class today the latter half is to be attempted for homework) There are 4 questions. We are still translating English to algebra expressions.
For each question the students have to a) isolate the variable ( to recognize it), b) create or formulate an algebraic expression and c) solve it

Day in general
  • Morning assembly- very cool
  • Chapter of Word Nerd our read aloud in which Ambrose is doing his best to get Cosmo and Amanda back together after she found out the 'truth'
  • Family Groups - preparing the group banners. At least we got a great start- gotta love the skeleton that a kindergartener drew for me. It looks like it is from a scary movie but it has a big grin on its face and when I asked what the squiggle was in the middle she said "Oh, that's his soul" WOW, so cute!
  • Math see the math booklet that should have come home for homework!! English to Algebra is the title
  • Physical Ed. with Mr. Parker- he said they were great and from the look of them afterwards, he worked them hard!
  • DEAR time- I am making the effort to have students accountable for their reading but a couple just collapsed heads on their desks after PEd.!!
  • We reviewed yesterday's science answers and cleared up some small misunderstandings in math before art
  • Art - last day for the Remembrance Day competition entries (I have 5 coloured posters, 1 black and white and two written entries this year - they look great) We also continued on with Landscapes work- which is also looking very promising.
  • Thanks to Kortney and Robyn for reminding me to breathe during lunch :)

Day was over too quickly- I need a forklift to find the wood on the top of my desk!!! See everyone tomorrow.

Mrs J.

P.S. I managed to get my report cards finished and in to Mrs Paxton today :) Yeah!
