Thursday November 12th, 2009

Quick one because I need to scoot up to Valleycliffe to see if I can catch the end of the boy's volleyball game!!

That reminds me that I must ask the girl's how they plyed on Tuesday!!

Homework
Any overdue or extention activities for the novel must be in by tomorrow to be included in the Term 1 report
Spelling Unit 8 test tomorrow (we re-did Unit 7 today)
Any incomplete questions for the short story on Tuesday using the QAR strategy need to be handed in too (most were finished in class on Tuesday)

Day in General
Better weather- better moods? :)

Students had both a music and a Phys Ed. lesson today
We read a chapter from our read aloud novel (it is funny)
We redid Unit 7 spelling and prepped for Unit 8
Math was translating the English language and the variable number in a opattern to an algebraic representation!!!! So, if I say you need to double the nth number and add 5 that would look like 2n+5 and from that you can work out the value of any variable in a sequence.
We analysed subject and predicates in language today as well as identifying helper (auxiliary verbs). We considered the difference between short simple sentences and the richer complex sentence that adds all the descriptive details.
DEAR time gave us a chance to experiment and get used to our 'new rules'
we finished the day with an activity that had us digging into atlases to find some of the old and new countries that are now considered part of Europe (like Estonia, Latvia, Belarus etc)
I taught the students a new way to shade to colour maps especially for those who do not like to colour (like my boys). They did a fantabulous job.
Planners and dismissal and the boys are up at Valleycliffe playing a volleyball game. Gotta run.
See you all tomorrow. Mrs. J.
