TGIF- whew- crazy hat day!! Say no more:)

As for the math test, I had it prepared and had the students who felt confident and ready do it today (all 10 of them)!! :) I gave the class a choice of more practice and test on Monday or test today if they were feeling they had studied hard for it. Some started it and then came back to class and said they wanted more practice!! :) I will re-do a new quiz for Monday :(
Oh well- I'd rather they had the opportunity to have a bit more practice time if they think they need it BUT as I said I will see how many follow through on Monday!!
Reminder that the grades six students are only being introduced to the concept of writing equations this year and will not be assessed on solving but if they can do it that's great exposure.
So...
Homework= same as last night!
Review and do the examples of writing algebraic expressions and solving the problems for a test on Monday

Day in gereral
DPA was fun this morning. We played the student-rule version of Indoor California Kickball (negotiated last week) and they were fabulous sports and I had a great time as they tried accidentally on purpose to take me out with the ball!! Kidding but I just happened to be in the wrong spot. Mitchell did a super job being my other pair of eyes and he reffed fairly. Good fun!

Two chapters of Word Nerd today as the students worked on French posters for months and weather. Ambrose can't believe his mother is dating his principal, Mr Acheson (Bob)!!!!
Too funny.

We watched a DVD about Rocks and Minerals that wraps up our unit of study neatly for science. It was about this time (11:15am) when I realized the students were beginning to get a bit 'squirrley' (is that a word?).

Math was more practice for the test OR some students chose to write it in the library with Cassandra (our CYW) supervising. The biggest hump seems to be finding the equation in the wording of the problem. Once they have the equation I think they have a solid understanding of how to solve it. Not sure until I test it though so don't quote me on that :)

Thank goodness it stopped raining long enough for them to get some fresh air. I needed a break. I tried to heat up my pizza for lunch by putting it into the FREEZER in the staffrrom! LOL

DEAR time was next after which I tried another idea for class seating as we are at the end of the week with our 'experiment'. It wasn't bad but isn't great either so I have plans to 'tweak' the seating next week!!

For computers I asked the students to take time on a sit for Internet-linked books - see the http://www.usbornequicklinks.com/ and link onto the Canadian flag and then onto history for Social studies. I had the students check out the archaeology links and will be encouraging them to use these links and the fabulous information, virtual tours and activities for upcoming work and projects in socials and science.

Whacky Hat Day was done (and so am I). Hope to see many of you next week if you can make it to the interviews Wed/Thurs next week. Don't worry if you can't make it as there is e-mail. phone and, with a bit of advance notice I can organize a different time or day.

Have a dry weekend. Toodles,
Mrs. J.
