I would like to extend my wishes to you and yours for a happy Thanksgiving long weekend.
Homework for Tuesday October 13th (can you believe it's already the middle of October?)
All students have to write a rough copy (minimum) and good copy (maximum) of the Reader's Response #4 which was for chapters 16-20 of the class novel, Who has Seen Frances Rain?
At the very least I would like to see a written rough copy on Tuesday
That is the only NEW HOMEWORK
a handful of students have other overdue assignments expected on Tuesday. These students know who they are (although some may deny it!) and know what it is they have to complete. I have done everything in my power to remind and encourage them to finish. Now they need to care enough to get it done (Nike: Just Do It!)
FYI as of Tuesday Oct 13th if this overdue work is not handed in I will be either asking students to hand it in 'as is' for partial assessment or forgetting it and doing a better job on current work- this is how it will work in grade 8. There will be a 'grace' period and after that it's take a zero and move on or get it done. Of course, taking zeros will affect the overall assessment of that particular subject area. If your child is in this position with his or her work I will be informing you in the coming week!! Time is running out. Term 1 reports need to be ready for November.
We had a great week and I have once again enjoyed the energy, discussion topics (although we need help staying completely on topic!) and the oppportunity to learn from my students as they learn from me. One of my student's older sisters is visiting next week (from HSSS) during her Art block to tutor the students in the class in a type of Animee art that she is very talented at creating. It is so nice to have former students willing to come in and mentor and tutor like this (especially when my art skills are less than stellar!!).
During science we discussed the unmanned rocket that was crashed on the 'dark side of the moon' yesterday and wondered what it would disturb or if we would find anything new. There is so much interest among this group for all the latest things that are going on in the world that I know I will be and should be keeping 'on my toes' . It is exciting to know that they are so well informed and inquisitive. I love it!!
Have a great weekend. I think I might have more homework than my students :!
