Thank Goodness it's Friday :) TGIF

Well, we made it through a full week of classes. Celebrate the weekend!

I have been impressed with how much information and detail the class has been able to handle this week - there have been lots of new routines and procedures and we are still getting to know one another and how we function best. Of course there is also the inevitable 'testing' time when instead of me having the students do 'tests', they 'test' me to see if what I said is really genuine or whether they can push the parameters. It's always interesting to see which students and what procedures are being questioned :)

This afternoon tiredness kicked in and some stuents got a little giddy and silly. Love a joke but we all need to know when enough is enough!! :)

Today was one of those over-before-you-know -it days. So much to do...

On Fridays I have scheduled in a 30minute DPA gym time first thing in the morning so we started the day playing a couple of crazy mixer games and sharing a community circle "What's good in my life..."
Together we discussed last night's novel reading and work and we got started on the Reader Response which is to be completed at home for Monday. I was impressed with the rough drafts which we did in class considering the students are not used to this kind of writing activity. Time was given to get it started in class so all students should be bringing home a first draft of the response.
I gave out the Spelling program for the term and have asked the students to take home this list and keep it there as they will receive another one for the classroom. Each day they chose 4 or 5 words to 'study' and on Thrsdays beginning next week, there will be a spelling test for the 15 Unit 1 words. The words are chosen because they are considered to be high frequency mispelled words. The words will be incorporated into our daily wrtiting and lessons and their will be accompanying quizzes and language activities accompanying the tests.

We had a chance today to talk a little about the possibilities for going on a year end field trip. We will need to do a bit more research on one of the possible camps and let the students vote on their favourite. So far we are considering Camp Summit, Horne Lake, Camp Ataban and Camp Homewood. More soon on this topic.

We did one more CAT test section on written language conventions. That leaves only the Math section to complete and we will be finished. Some students have been away and need to get caught up- they will be given time next week but will need to miss a bit of class time for that to happen.

The Scholastic book fair is back and happening next week. Today we had a sneak peak at what is available.

After lunch, we completed an activity called Life Maps. I have asked the students to think about what is unique about them and their life. I was truly impressed with the creativity that I saw unfold before my eyes. Every student made progress on the Life Map poster.

Some reading and organizing and thinking completed our busy week. Homework is as follows...

HOMEWORK
  • complete a good copy of your reading response #1 (chapters 1-5) It is acceptable to either word process it on the computer or hand in a neatly written, proofread copy.
  • bring milk program $$
  • Have you paid for the planner? Camp Summit?

If you were away and missed some work please go over the forms to catch up with the missed assignments. Thank-you

Have a great weekend. Probably see you at the soccer field tomorrow!!
Mrs. J.
