Still no computer in class!!
I am feeling a little crestfallen right now- it was not a stellar day in grade seven and I find myself reacting with frustration and mounting annoyance to the continual interruptions that seem to interfere with the flow of the day! Interesting that it was the first time in a while that all 30 students were in class!!!
I made another seating change tonight - hopefully this will be the last one. The groups of 6 were too big.
I hope we can hold it together for the next couple of weeks!! The school year isn't over yet!!
I am thinking of some different ways I can bring the group together, however, I have such a diverse group that there really is difficult to 'appeal' to them all whether it's a movie or an activity. There was no agreement on a class year end activity!
As for work, Thursday is the cut off for marks for report cards which are due to the office on Monday June 15th. I have been marking each evening what has been submitted. A big thank-you to the students who have been busy working through it all. I have been providing time and trying to keep up instruction as usual but the same students work and a growing number are becoming silly and disruptive and some rude when they are called on their behaviour. To save evryone's sanity, I will be sharing the most disruptive with my colleagues in other classrooms as I started doing today.
The intermediate teachers met at lunch today to finalize plans for Friday's sports day- our organization will be similar to last year with some new stations and hopefully we can count on the grade sevens to step up to the plate and be team leaders :)
We managed to get through some Language Arts activities: vocabulary, novel (Ch 11) and getting closer to completing the 'Latin influence' worksheet, math was handed out but badly interrupted- I will be doing that leaason again tomorrow morning as Jackie Dickinson is completing our last Drug & Alcohol Session 11-12 noon. I stopped reading with the students (again due to interruption) and asked them to complete a Roman social studies worksheet independently. Time was provided for independent work- some used it many did not.
For the last part of the afternoon, I thought everyone could use a break so I put on a classic movie Dragon Heart. Lots of complaints...I can't win!!
Time is running out for assignments to be completed - thank-you again to the students who are taking things home to finish them up. I appreciate all the help and advice I have received from some of my students too- every kindness helps.
Have a good evening. See you tomorrow for a better day in class!!
