Thursday May 7th

I don't think anyone was too upset when we heard that the high school band from the Pacific Academy had to cancel their scheduled performance this afternoon as we have had lots of entertaining performances of late!! AND we had some work to do- go figure!!

In math we reviewed the angles transversal lines make when they intersect parallel lines. You really don't need a protractor to measure anything when they all add up to a complete revolution (360) - it is all so tidy but it is a bit abstract for some students especially if visual-spatial skills are weak.

We had a bit of a 'discussion' about how young people learn from media and their friends about many sexual matters and the importance of confiding or making an effort to discuss such issues with parents. We read a 2006 article that researched the misunderstandings and myths that still exist among young people about sexual health. When needed a recommended web site operated by OptBC (Options BC) is wontgetweird.com

Novel Word to Caesar Chapters 1-3 are now completed - students were asked to respond in written format in their journals to three questions on the board- most finished this in class today but a handful of students have still to show me completed work before we review the answers in detail tomorrow. ( I know who they are even if they don't :))

Unit 26 spelling test with +5 words from our vocabulary assignments- tomorrow.

Social studies Brochures for their destination of choice - students are asked to create a modern day meets ancient world tourist type brochure for one of the destinations that we 'visited' on our virtual tour of Greece and the Peloponnese penninsula. Most have chosen their destination, have information and some notes and are now in the process of creation- I have asked them to do some further work on the brochures tonight as most have access to computers and perhaps some time to 'create' in a more peaceful environment?!

Vocab-u-lous assignments for letters G & H are due tomorrow- approx. one third are already handed in- thank-you for your diligent work.

Last call for any of the overdue assignments (listed on the white board poster as Assignments MIA)
I would like to do the assessment of these over the weekend and prepare to move on.

A school newsletter went home today. Thank-you for the prompt payment for the camp and the hoodies. Hot lunch forms are due by May 14th. Thanks everyone- more fun and excitement Friday- I can hardly wait!!!!
